Introduction
Worship (Ibaadah) in Islam is the fundamental purpose for which Allah created mankind. The concept of worship in Islam is comprehensive and extends far beyond specific rituals or places of worship. Unfortunately, many Muslims tend to restrict its meaning to acts like prayer (Salat), giving charity (Zakat), fasting during Ramadan (Sawm), pilgrimage (Hajj), and supplication (Du’a). While these are important pillars of worship, this limited understanding reduces the broader essence of Ibaadah. In reality, worship in Islam encompasses every action, word, and intention carried out in accordance with Allah’s guidance, aiming to please Him. It includes not only formal acts of devotion but also daily activities like work, interactions with others, and fulfilling responsibilities, provided they are done with sincerity and a desire to gain Allah’s favour. This more holistic view of worship reflects the true spirit and depth of Islam, which governs all aspects of life.
